Leonardo DiCaprio’s name allegedly comes from his mother having experienced a sudden kick from her unborn baby while looking at a painting by Da Vinci. Leonardo started acting at a very young age, he appeared in a TV show entitled Romper Room at the age of five and some small parts in other TV shows. His debut film role was Josh in Critters 3, but he got his breakthrough role in This Boy’s Life in 1993 as Toby. His role in This Boy’s Life got the attention of the National Society of Film Critics and the New York Film Critics. In 1993 he also got his first Golden Globe and Academy Ward nomination for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. he also played a difficult roles as a drug-troubled teen in The Basketball Diaries in 1995, Rimbaud in Total Eclipse, and an angry teenage son in Mother’s Room. His most popular role is Romeo in the modernized movie Romeo & Juliet in 1996 and he reached superstardom as Jack Dawson in the movie Titanic in 1997.
